WOOL INCREASE
IMMEDIATE PAYMENT REQUESTED RESOLUTION BY WAIRARAPA SHEEPOWNERS. SHEARERS’ AWARD AUGMENTED. “That this meeting, realising the demonstrated insincerity of the Government in its excuses regarding inflation, requests immediate payment of the full 15 per cent increase in the wool price, especially in view of the shearers’ award for this year beifig already'augmented on the basis of the payment to the farmers of the 15 per cent increase in the wool price,” was a rsolution passed at yesterday afternoon’s meeting in Masterton of the Wairarapa Sheepowners’ Federation.
Mr A. McDonald, who presided, and Mr W. A. lorns, delegates to the electoral committee of the Meat Board, gave a comprehensive review of proceedings at the anual meetings of the Wool Council and the Meat Board.
The meeting decided to arrange for the chairman and the general manager of the Meat Board to visit Masterton and address a meeting of interested parties.
Mr lorns impressed on members the need of maintaining wool publicity connections in England. He mentioned that good work had been done and would be needed in post-war years in advertising w'ool. He contended that the levy of 6d per bale on wool was not missed by the individual farmer, and the money raised was well spent. In reply to a question by Mr W. F. McLaren as to the necessity of maintaining the levy in view of the restricted work, on account of the war, that was being.done in the way of advertising, etc., in England, Mr lorns said that any accumulation of funds would not be too great in view of the work that faced them in the future.
