ANSON & HOWE

NEW BATTLESHIPS SERVING WITH FLEET.

(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 20. The Admiralty announces that two new British battleships, the Anson and the Howe, are now at sea. They are of the King George V class, and have a displacement of 35,000 tons. Each carries four aircraft and is designed for improved defence against air attack The armament includes ten 14inch guns, of greater ’ range than the 15-inch guns mounted in earlier snips. Each carries 1500 officers and men. The Anson has already tested her guns against an enemy aeroplane While she was protecting an important convoy in the Atlantic, an enemy plane appeared, but a few rounds from the Anson’s anti-aircraft guns were sufficient to drive it away.
