ESPERANTO

MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. At the usual weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club, held last evening, Mr N. Lamont presided over an excellent attendance of members. During the evening the secretary, S/Sgt. W. H. King,’ gave a brief informative talk on “Pidgin English,” which forms a link, although a somewhat crude one, between a large number of the peoples of the Western Pacific. Several features of grammar and a small glossary were dealt with, and a number of amusing expressions in pidgin were quoted as examples of the medium. The club undertook a considerable amount of practical study embracing reading, translating and conversational Esperanto. A general question period, which proved to be very helpful and instructive, concluded the evening.
