CARTERTON

PATRIOTIC DANCE’ (“Times-Age” Special.) The weekly dance held, in the State Theatre,on Saturday evening under the auspices of the Y.M.C.A. and Citizens Committee, was well attended, and was most enjoyable. Two lucky spot waltzes were won by Sgt. Joss and Miss Fletcher, and Pte. Rogers and Mrs T. Allen. Extras were played by Miss V. Irwin and members of the Armed Forces. Music for the dance was supplied by the orchestras of Messrs T. Udy and F. Pool. Mr L. M. Clark was M.C., and the supper arrangements were controlled by members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers Union.

Rags for the Air Force. The Carter ton and Clare ville Boy Scouts during the recent drive for rags for the Air Force collected 441 lbs., which is an excellent effort.

Soldier To Be Entertained.

The residents of Clareville and district will entertain Private Jack Walker at a social gathering in the Clareville Hall tomorrow night. More Vandalism. Vandalism is still rampant in Carterton. Last week Dr. Wells’s garden at the north end of the town was visited, and many of his beautiful rose bushes were damaged. Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club. Mr M. J. Parker presided over a meeting of the Carterton Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club. After some discussion it was decided to hold the group judging on Saturday, December 5, on the Carterton school grounds, the secretary to make an application to the Carterton School Committee for the use of the grounds. It was decided that the rules governing calves and lambs will be the same as last year; that the prize money be the same’ as last year for calves and lambs, viz., 4s, 3s and 2s; that there be a class for care and handling for children in Standard 2 and under, and one for Standard 3 and over; that a trophy be donated to the winner of the Borthwick Cup; that there be a class for yearlings which were shown last year as calves (all yearlings must show last year’s earmark); that all boys and girls who do not win a prize receive Is each. All calves and lambs coming forward must be earmarked. Mrs F. Renall, of Parkvale, has donated a cun to be allotted as the committee desired? It was resolved to thank Mrs Renall and to allot the cup for the best calf in the care and handling class, to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals.
