SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED

TEA AT Y.M.C.A. ROOMS.

GIVEN BY ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY.

The weekly tea free to members of the forces, held in the Y.M.C.A., Mastert'on, last night, was provided by members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The tea was largely attended and the men did full justice to the excellent fare provided. Mr Avon Tatton, representing the Y.M.C.A., introduced the Rev Father Dr Gilhooly, chaplain to the St Vincent de Paul Society. Father Gilhooly welcomed the guests and expressed the society’s pleasure at being able to entertain the men. He conducted the brief devotional service. Brackets of songs were rendered by Misses M. Diggins and Y. Saunders, who both received a splendid hearing. Miss Saunders also gave a recitation. Miss M. Nee was the accompaniste for the singing. On behalf of the mep, Sergeant Wood returned thanks.

Guests 'present included Captains (Padres) Aldridge and Ayres and Mr L. Robinson, president of the St Vincent de Paul Men’s Society. Following the tea the men were entertained at community singing in the lounge, under the leadership of the Field Secretary, Mr Noel Liebezeit. Mrs Liebezeit was at the piano. A short devotional service was conducted by Captain (Padre) Ayres. Later, a picture screening was shown by Mr C. Lyttle in the games hall.
