WEST SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
GOOD PROGRESS WITH GROUND IMPROVEMENTS.
At the monthly meeting of the Masterton West School Committee, over which Mr R. Graham, chairman, presided, satisfaction was expressed with the good progress made in concreting the school grounds and drive to the entrance gates. The efforts of Education Board members, Messrs J. D. O’Connor and W. R. Nicol, together with those of the Wellington Education Board and the Education Department in obtaining this result, were much appreciated by the committee. Portion of the ground had been levelled off and. it was intended to plant a crop of potatoes in this area, thereby contributing to the drive for more vegetables. The headmaster reported that seven thousand onion plants grown in the school garden had been distributed among the pupils for home gardens.
The committee authorised the erection of two batting bases for cricket practice. The number of children on the roll was. now 357. At present the attendance was affected by a slight epidemic of measles. Miss O’Hara Smith, ijhe infant mistress, was on sick leave.
Mr E. R. Rogers and the secretary (Mr Dugdale) were appointed the visiting committee for the ensuing month.
