Mrs S. F. McHardy, Hawke’s Eay, is visiting Masterton.
Mrs N. Moore, Eastbourne, is staying with her sister, Miss Baird, Fownall Street, Masterton.
Mrs Dazzler, Hawke’s Bay, is visiting her mother, Mrs T. T. Denbee, Renall Street, Masterton.
Capt. and Mrs J. Lampen, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs T. Jordan, The Terrace, Lansdowne, have returned to Auckland. The death has occurred in Hastings of Mr Alexander Malcolm Brodie, M.R.C.V.S., one of New Zealand’s bestknown veterinarians. Mr Brodie had been in ill-health for several years. He was born in Kent, England, 65 years ago.
The appointment of Major F. Baker to command the Maori Battalion with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. is announced. He has been granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He succeeds the late Lieutenant-Colonel E. T. W. Love. Before going on service with the Maori Battalion in the present war, Lieutenant-Colonel Baker held a commission in the Waikato Mounted Rifles. The battalion’s second-in-com-mand is Major I. A. Hart, of Masterton.
