Chase After Prisoner.
An escapee from the Rangipo prison camp, Tokaanu, on Monday, Kenneth Edward Austin, aged 22, was recaptured at Taihape on Wednesday after a police chase through the town. On Thursday he was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment with hard labour. He had stolen military clothing valued at £7 and hitchhiked to Taihape.
Permits for Rubbish. Now that the Masterton Fire Station is in full occupation again, after the completion of temporary repairs following the earthquake, permits for burning rubbish in the borough are once more being issued at the station. When the building was rendered unsafe by the recent earthquakes the issue of permits .was suspended for the time being.
