FEATHERSTON

WEDDING JOHNSON-JOHNSON. (“Times-Age” Special.) A very pretty military wedding took place at the Presbyterian Church recently, when Euphemia Elspeth, youngest twin daughter of Mr and Mrs William Johnson, of Featherston, was married to Pte. Edward Maurice, youngest son of Mrs and the late Mr Martin Johnson, of Carterton. Captain Murray, padre of the Ist Battalion, New Zealand Scottish Regiment, performed the ceremony which was fully choral, Mrs Arch Clark presiding at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, was beautifully gowned in white lace cut on straight lines,, the skirt forming a train. Her embroidered French net veil which was lent for the occasion by Mrs A. Short, of Lower Hutt, was held in position by a cluster of orange blossom and lily of the valley. She carried a beautiful bouquet of white hyacinths, freezias, lily of the valley and maidenhair fern. The bride was attended by her twin sister, Alice, as chief bridesmaid, and Miss Betty Sewell, of Carterton. who each wore a picture frock of rose pink taffeta with heart-shaped neckline, matching pink net veils with a headdress of flowers, pin net mittens and carried bouquets of pink camelias, grape hyacinths and maidenhair fern. June Torrey, of Linton, niece of the bride, was flower girl, and she was dressed in Victorian peacock green taffeta, complete with matching veil and posie. Pte. G Tomlin carried out the duties of best man, and Sgt. Sandy McPherson that of groomsman, while little David Johnson acted as page boy. During the signing of the register a delightful solo “My Prayer,” was rendered bv Mrs A. Houston. The reception was held at the. Kia Ora tearooms which were artistically decorated with early sweet-peas, freezias, grape hyacinths and maidenhair fern Mrs AV. Johnson who was attired in a smart wine frock with navy coat and matching accessories, received the guests, assisted by Mrs Martin Johnson who wore a navy tailored costume and furs. > As Private and Mrs Johnson leit the reception they were piped to their cai by pipers from the Ist Battalion of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment. For travelling, the bride wore a smart navy tailored costume with navy hat and touches of pink and carried a handsome fur stole, the gift of th bridegroom.

Soldiers’ Dance. The soldiers’ dance held in the Town Hall on Saturday night was well attended and proved most en 3oy a ble ;| The music was supplied by a soldiei and Miss G. Fraser, extras being played by Misses M. Tocker and N. Tocker. Mr Talbot was M.C. A novelty lucky spot dance was won by 1 te. Gillgren and Miss I. Worsley, and a foxtrot by Pte. McNeil and Miss C. Sabs The supper room was tastefully decorated with spring flowers by the Junior Patriotic Committee. COSY THEATRE double programme. There will be a double programme presented on Wednesday night at the Cosy Theatre. The chief attraction will be “From Manger to Cross,” the famous biblical picture filmed in the Holy Land, and “Our Royal Heritage.” a thrilling story of Britain today.
