BEER BAR CLOSED
IN NEW ZEALAND FORCES CLUB IN CAIRO. LIQUOR STILL AVAILABLE AT CANTEENS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A decision by the club management to close the beer bar of the New Zealand Forces Club in Cairo is announced in a report to the National Patriotic Fund Board by its overseas Commissioner, Lieutenant-Colonel F. Waite. According to the report the step was taken so as to reduce military staffs in all base units, and also for other reasons, and was approved by General Freyberg. Colonel Waite adds that although it has been decided to close the bar, the troops will still be able to get beer at camp canteens from 6 to 9 every evening. Of the club generally, Colonel Waite says it continues to give good service and also acts as a supply agent to unit canteens. The units get New Zealand tobacco and other goods from the club and it is a very satisfactory service.
