WOMEN’S INSTITUTE SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The shop day held yesterday at Mauriceville East by the Women’s Institute was a decided success, a considerable sum being obtained. At a meeting held recently, the committee acknowledged with thanks an anonymous donation of £5 towards the soldiers’ parcels fund. Soldiers’ Parcel Fund Dance. ' A dance will be held at the Mauriceville West Hall on Friday for the purpose of raising money for the soldiers’ parcels fund. It is anticipated the gathering will be well attended, as the object is a very worthy one. Violent Gale. The district experienced a severe thunderstorm and violent gale yesterday afternoon. A large totara tree on a local farm was struck by lightning, caught fire and was completely destroyed.
