WOMEN’S DIVISION
PATRIOTIC DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, despite the rough weather conditions, held a very successful dance ’ll the State Theatre last evening. There was a large attendance and a most enjoyable time was spent. The music was supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra, and extras were played by Miss M. Herrick and Bandsman Clark. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Jensen and Mr Walsh, and the lucky spot waltz went to Miss Hannah and Corporal Johns. Messrs K. H. Reid and V. J. Ashton were M’s.C. During the evening a competition! for a ham was won by Mr A. Stretton? A tasty supper was provided and presided over by members of the Women’s Division. As a result of the dance the patriotic funds will benefit to a considerable extent. Violent Gale, Carterton experienced a violent north-westerly gale yesterday afternoon and night, accompanied by heavy rain and hail and intermittent thunderstorms. Damage was done to orchards and fences. Manufacture of Cheese. The Dalefield cheese factory is at the present time working eleven vats, and this week despatched 23 tons of cheese. The Belvedere factory is operating nine vats, and sent away 11 tons of cheese this week. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs C. C. Callender, who spent a holiday at Paraparaumu, have returned to Carterton. Mr and Mrs F. Groube, of Swamp Road, Carterton, have received a cable message from their son, Lance Bombardier F. C. Groube, who is with the armed forces in the Middle East, stating that he is in good health. Boy Scouts’ Card Party. There was a fair attendance at the weekly card party held by the Boy Scout Committee in the Band Room. The prizes were won as follows: —Ladies: Mrs Edwards 1, Mrs J. Hooper 2. Men: Mr G. Goodin 1, Mr E. Phelps 2. Church Service. A Church of England service will be held at Waihakeke at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday.
