ORDER OF DRUIDS

TOTARA LODGE. The fortnightly meeting of the Totara Lodge No. 3, U.A.O.D.,'was held last night, Arch Druid Bro H. J. Bassett presiding. Grand Lodge gave notice that the usual conference would be held in Wellington on March 16, 1943. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand forwarded interest on money invested in the Liberty Loan and invited subscriptions to a further loan. The Public Trustee, as executor for a deceased member’s estate, made a claim for a death benefit. The officers recently elected were installed into office by D.P. Bro. A. J. Dew, assisted by Bro. P. J. Reid as M.C. v Bro. Geo. Hart, who has taken up his residence in Carterton, was present and welcomed by members. Bro. Hart, in replying, said that he would now attend Lodge regularly. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £l3O 7s 6d were passed for payment. TENNIS MEETING OF CARTERTON CLUB. A meeting of the Carterton Tennis Club was held last night,. Mr R. W. Roydhouse (president) presiding. There were present Messrs A. D. Taylor, M. W. Worsfold, Miss E. Newbould, Mrs R. Harrington and Miss B. Peters (hon secretary). It was decided that the courts be opened for play on Saturday, October 3, at 1.30 p.m. and that a Yankee tournament, mixed doubles, be played. Soldier subscriptions were fixed at 10s for three months and 15s for the season.

It was resolved that a dance be held in the State Theatre on Wednesday, October 7. It was reported that the club had been able to purchase a number of tennis balls and that these be retailed to players at current prices. Personal Items. Mr Thornton returned to Carterton yesterday after a visit to Napier. Patriotic Dance. Members of the Carterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union will hold a dance in the State Theatre on Thursday, the proceeds from which will be devoted to patriotic purposes. Mrs Ashton’s orchestra will provide the music.
