CANADIAN DESTROYER
TORPEDOED AND SUNK WHILE ON CONVOY DUTY. LARGE PART OF COMPLIMENT LOST. LONDON, September 21. The Canadian destroyer Ottawa has been torpedoed and sunk while engaged on convoy duty. The captain and four officers 'and 107 ratings are missing, believed killed. The Ottawa, formerly the Crusader, was one of four destroyers acquired by Canada from Great Britain. The Canadian Navy Minister, Mr MacDonald, said five officers. of the Ottawa and 69 ratings were listed as survivors. . ... , The loss of the Ottawa is the thud Canadian loss announced this week, the others being the patrol vessel Raccoon and the corvette Charlottetown. This brings Canada’s naval losses m the war to ten ships.
