Today their Excellencies the Gov-ernor-General and Lady Newall left Wellington in order to pay their first official visits to Dannevirke, Waipawa and Waipukurau. They will return to Wellington on Thursday. Mr Harry N. Holmes, general secretary of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. from 1904 to 1911, and now associate secretary of the World Alliance for International Friendship through the Churches, New York, has had the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters conferred on him by Dickinson College. The funeral of the late Mrs H. H. Liddle took place at Masterton yesterday afternoon. The services at St. Matthew's Church and at the graveside were conducted by Archdeacon E. J. Rich. Among others, wreaths were received from Mr J. Kerslake and staff. The pall-bearers were Messrs J. Judd, E. Perry, A. Hare and H. J. Yates.
Mr and Mrs Vivian Donald, Lansdowne, have received an official certificate, bearing the signature of MajorGeneral Freyberg, Commander of the New Zealand Division, Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, certifying that their son, Captain H. V. Donald, M.C., had been mentioned in despatches for distinguished service in the field. Captain Donald is serving with the New Zealand forces in the Middle East.
The funeral took place at Masterton yesterday afternoon of Mr W. Burridge. Archdeacon E. J. Rich conducted the services at Hyde’s Chapel and at the graveside. A large number of floral tributes received included wreaths from Messrs W. Burridge and Son, Bunny, Burridge and Douglas, Levin and Co., Ltd., and the chairman and members of the Masterton Rotary Club. The pall-bearers were Messrs B. Braggins, A. H. Spicer, W. E. Kjestrup, J. H. McDonald, C. O'Connell and Sergeant W. H. King.
