EKETAHUNA

BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Mayor (Mr W. Olsen) presided over the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council. The Town Clerk reported as follows: —District Fund Account, dr., £2lB 18s 4d; Domain Account, cr., £1 3s Id; rate arrears, £2OB 9s 2d; cemetery arrears, £l4 ss, Mr H. E. Rogers was sworn in as a councillor to fill the vacancy caused by Mr P. S. Page entering camp. A transfer of land from Vincent Hooper to William George Waterreus was approved. It was decided that the Borough Council call tenders for erecting the Municipal Buildings. It was reported that Messrs Jenkins Bros, would commence renovations to. the W.F.C.A. buildings shortly.

A letter was received from the Dir-ector-General of Post Offices, stating that a site for the new Post Office would be chosen shortly. The Acting-Postmaster, Mr Gray, wrote in regard to the dark approach to the Post Office, stating that the concrete steps were very dangerous. The matter was referred to the Post Office authorities. Mr M. Priest waited on the Council in connection with the Dental Cline. He said the Government would find £450 if the settlers found £l5O. It was decided to discuss the matter at the next meeting. The Scout Committee'wrote offering the use of the Scout Den as a library, which would be open on Thursday afternoons and Friday evenings. Personal Items. The Mayor (Mr W.' Olsen), the Mayoress and members-.of the Borough Ladies’ Soldiers’ Comforts Committee, visited the home of Mrs Drysdale and presented Driver Morrison Drysdale with a well-filled wallet from the citizens of Eketahuna. He was also handed a parcel of woollen comforts by the Ladies’ Committee. Mrs Doughtey is an inmate of the Masterton Hospital. Driver and Mrs M. Drysdale, Wanganui, are the guests of Mrs Drysdale, Macara Street. **
