UNHAPPY GERMANS
SUICIDES AND EXECUTIONS IN FRANCE. German soldiers sent to France to) recuperate after fighting on the Eastern} front have been causing considerable trouble, according to news received from the French frontier by “France” (the French daily newspaper published in London). The Germans are fighting among themselves, says that paper, those from Russia accusing their countrymen in France of being slackers and shirkers. Heavy drinking is on the increase, which adds to the tendency to quarrel.! The French, who are not at all sorry tc see Germans fighting one another, de nothing to discourage their drinking. Mutiny broke out in one regiment ordered back to Russia after three weeks instead of a promised three months’ rest in France. For this, fif Germans were shot. Many single executions of German soldiers have taken place, some in the Paris region. There have been numerous suicides of Germans not wishing to return to the hell of the Russian frpnt.
