CHIMNEY REPAIR PRICES (To the Editor) Sir, —In view of the prices which are being charged for repairing chimneys damaged in the recent earthquakes, would the Borough Engineer, in the interests of ratepayers, express an opinion as to what is a fair price for topping a chimney the regulation two feet above the roof? —I am, etc., RATEPAYER. Masterton, September 17, 1942. The Borough Engineer, Mr C. R. Mabson, said the charges for the repair of chimtaeys by private arrangement were a matter outside his province. A Masterton builder, questioned in reference to the cost involved, said it was extremely difficult to state a price, in view of the great variation in construction, the type of material, and the amount of scaffolding, etc., required.
