U-BOATS OFF CANADIAN COAST. LOSS OF FOUR MERCHANTMEN & PATROL VESSEL. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) OTTAWA, September 14. The Navy Department has issued a statement that the patrol vessel Racoon, with 38 officers and men, has been’lost while guarding a convoy. ■ The Minister of the Navy, Mr Angus Macdonald, said there had been an increase in the tempo of enemy activity on Canada’s side of the Atlantic. He regretted to report that four merchantmen had also been lost by enemy action with 10 of their officeis and crew. The remainder of the personnel were rescued.
