DEMANDED IM UNITED STATES.

OPINIONS OF SENATORS,

(By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright)

WASHINGTON, September 14. Senator Truman, chairman of the Senate Defence Investigation Committee, said that the United States pilots have proved their superiority as pilots on inferior planes. He called for twofisted administration of the war production front, and said that the Army should “concentrate on the production of the best planes and give less attention to publicity blurbs intended to emphasise that poor planes are better than none.” Senator Truman explained that the committee authorised his speech, hoping to wake up the “brass hats.”. Senator Wallgren said that conversations with pilots had convinced him that the American fighter planes did not measure up to. the best fighters Britain was producing, while the Navy was using a plane that was a joke. Senators Johnson and Lucas expressed the opinion that the Japanese Zeros flew higher and faster than the American fighters because they were stripped of protective armament.
