EKETAHUNA

COUNTY COUNCIL * MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council there were present: Messrs J. B .Carruthers (in the chair), C. Richardson, P. Davies, F. M. Goggin, A. J. Perry, T. R. Hancock, J. P Petersen, C. Davie, H. N. Kebbell. R. W. Kebbell and R. Houlbrooke.

It was reported that arising out of the recent earthquakes and the flood in July, additional expenditure on main highways had been approved by the Main Highways Board on the Mas-terton-Weber Highway, £250, the Eke-tahuna-Alfredton Highway £2OO, and the Pah Valley Main Highway £2OO. The Ministry of Supply wrote advising that in cases where iron was required for earthquake reinstatement work, the Council may approve applications from individuals desirous of purchasing iron for this purpose. Supplies had been made available to merchant stockists in the Wairarapa and the iron could be supplied by the merchants in cases where the County Council had approved of applications. This procedure would apply to the sale of flat or corrugated, galvanised or terne-coated steel sheets. The County Clerk reported that considerable progress had been made with the restoration of first-line chimneys in the county. It was estimated that little more than one week’s work remained to be carried out. Some difficulty had been experienced in obtaining plumbers to carry out necessary work, but advice had been received that two more plumbers would arrive within the course' of a day or two. • The Council received with regret the resignation of Mr J. P. Jensen from the service of the council. Mr Jensen had been in the employ of the council for 30 years. An appreciation of Mr Jensen’s services was placed on record and recognition of his long service was made.
