MAURICEVILLE COUNCIL
Monthly meeting of members COLLECTION OF RATES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held yesterday afternoon. Mr E. W. Cheetham presided, and there were also present: Councillors A. Gray, D. Bennett, O. Welch, J. H. MacDonald and A. Forsberg. The treasurer’s report, which showed a credit balance of £2482 Ils 6d, was adopted. The district engineer, Public Works Department, advised that the Main 1 Highways Board had approved of the following additional subsidies towards the cost of repairs following damage by Hood and earthquake: —No. 443. , Mauriceville-Hastwell Main Highway, £37; No. 816, Masterton-Weber Main Highway, £128; No. 872, Dreyer’s Rock Main Highway, £3OO. The clerk reported upon an accident that had occurred to one of the counties’ lorries and stated that the repairs to the lorry had now been authorised by the Insurance Company. The clerk submitted the following in connection with the collection of rates for the year 1942-43: East Riding: General rates received, £1521 3s 7d equal to 71.1 per cent of the total general rates levied. This compared more than favourably with the percentage of 68.8 collected for the year 1941-42 West Riding: The collection of rates in the West Riding totalled £1227 12s, representing 69.1 per cent Of the total general rates levied as compared with the percentage of 71 8 per cent collected for the year 194142 Details of the proposed N.Z. Counties’ Co-operative Insurance Company, Ltd were received in a report from the "chairman of the Insurance Committee of the N.Z. Counties Association. This information was passed on to councillors who will discuss the matter fully at the next monthly meeting of the council. A letter was received from the act-ing-secretary of the Ministry of Supply authorising the council to approve of applications for the sale of flat or corrugated, galvanised oi teine-coat* ed steel sheets. It was pointed out by the Ministry of Supply that all persons in the Mauriceville County requiring galvanised iron would have tc make application for supplies through the county clerk. . The Tararua Electric Power Boarc wrote informing the council of the transfer of its head office to Pahiatua. Prospective work on the various highways and roads was discussed and arranged for,
