ATTEMPTS TO ESCAPE
AUSTRIAN ALPINE TROOPS IN NORWAY. HUNDREDS SUMMARILY SHOT BY NAZIS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, September 14. Austrian alpine troops stationed in northern Norway recently made mass attempts to escape to Sweden, says the Stockholm correspondent of the “New York Times,” who quotes an eyewitness’s report that some succeeded in reaching- Sweden, but several hundred who failed were summarily shot by German firing squads. The Germans have since trebled the border guards.
