COURSING

WAIRARAPA CLUB’S SEASON CONCLUDED CONTEST FOR C. E. GREY TROPHY. HAWKE’S BAY COMPETITOR f SUCCESSFUL. 1 Excellent coursing was seen yesterday at the Akura Plumpton, when the Wairarapa Coursing Club held a meeting for the C. E Grey Trophy. It was the final meeting of the season. A south-westerly wind made the conditions somewhat unpleasant. There was a moderate attendance of spectators. Spectacular coursing was seen throughout the afternoon. The hares ran magnificently before the wind, and easily outpaced the dogs, every hare reaching the escapes. Another win to a visiting owner was recorded when Mr T. B. Noonan's Hats Off beat Mr A. La Roche’s R.A.F. in the final by 5 points to l'/ 2 . The winner, a fast and clever worker, outpaced his opponent in the run-up to the hare, and by his skill in working, overshadowed his less experienced competitor, to drive the hare to the escapes. At the conclusion of the coursing, Mr J. H. Payton. patron, presented the C. E. Grey Trophy, which also carried with it £1 Is presented by the donor, to Mr Noonan. Mr C. E. Grey, speaking on behalf of the spectators, said the club was to be congratulated on the sport it had presented , throughout the season. It was a fitting conclusion to see such fine performances of both hares and dogs in the final meeting of the season. Details of the coursing are:— First round: Hats Off, T.
