FREE TEA
SERVICEMEN ENTERTAINED AT Y.M.C.A. Yesterday afternoon and evening the Y.M.C.A. rooms were again a popular rendezvous for Servicemen. A party of willing lady helpers, associated with the Wairarapa Steam Laundry, under the di recton of Mrs Moss and Miss Whitehouse, pleasingly provided the free tea to at least 150 men. Representing the Board of Directors, Mr E. Esler extended a welcome and Mrs Moss voiced the pleasure _ the helpers experienced in entertaining the men and mentioned the fact that at least £BO had been contributed to patriotic funds by the Wairarapa Steam Laundry staff. ‘ „ Private Van Asch expressed the thanks of the men and Corporal Borlase. in endorsing his remarks, thanked the Y.M.C.A. for the interest taken in the men he represented. Devotions were conducted by the Y.M.C.A. Field Secretary, Mr Campbell. A bracket of songs was sweetly sung by Miss Brogden to the piano accorfipaniment of Miss Penistone. Following the tea community hymn and song singing was indulged in and terminated in time for any who desired to attend church services at 7 p.m.. this being in keeping with the decision of the directors that no organised entertainment should be conducted during the hour of church services.
