STREET LIGHTING
SHROUDS TO BE REMOVED, NO RELAXATION FOR HOUSES OR SHOPS. The shrouds at present fitted to street 'lights in Masterton are to be removed and replaced by the reflectors previously in use. This will give greatly improved street lighting.' A decision to carry out this alteration was made yesterday afternoon at a meeting of the Reduced Lighting Committee. Mr G. A. Brown presided and there were also present: Messrs T. Jordan, G. T. O’Hara Smith, J. C. D. Mackley, C. R. Mabson, J. H. .Cunningham, H, P. Hugo, W. Kemp and Senior Sergeant G. A. Doggett. Advice was received from the Dominion Lighting Controller to the effect that under the new lighting regulations there was no relaxation of restrictions applying to residences, shops and commercial premises. Restrictions regarding street lighting, however, have been eased considerably and a resolution was passed that the Wairarapa Electric Power Board be asked to replace the existing shrouds with the reflectors previously used.
