Despite atrocious weather conditions, the police are still carrying out _ inquiries regarding the deaths of Brigadier Smyth and her sister. Many journeys into outlying districts arc entailed and these are proving arduous owing to the cold and heavy rain. It now appears that inquiries as to the time of the tragedy are approaching completion and by indications every thing in connection witn the investigation is progressing satisfactorily. The full complement of officers reported earlier is still in . tne district. As is usual with this typo or crime, the inquiries entail a considerable amount of work and it may be some days before anything further of an important nature becomes known.
