MIGHTIEST YET
AMERICAN BATTLESHIP lOWA WILL. BE LAUNCHED AHEAD OF SCHEDULE. VESSEL OF 45,000 TONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) NEW YORK, August 26. The mightiest battleship ever built, the 45,000-ton lowa, will be launched ahead of schedule. Five similar vessels are under construction. Though the Navy Department has not revealed the lowa’s specifications, “Janes Fighting Ships” says, that the lowa class ships carry nine 16-inch guns and 20 5-inch guns. The speed is unofficially reported at 35 knots.
