COMMUNIST PAPERS
BAN LIFTED IN BRITAIN.
WITH ACCOMPANYING WARNING.
(British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.35 a - in -) RUGBY, August 26. The Home Secretary, Mr Herbert Morrison, today revoked the orders made by him in January, 1941, undei Regulation 2D of the Defence Regulations, prohibiting publication pty the “Daily Worker” and “The Week. As Mr Morrison has more than once stated in Parliament, the imposition .oi the ban did not imply the suppression of these papers for the whole dtnation of the war. Having regard, however, to the fact that the earlier attitude of the Communist Party, m opposition to the war, was maintaincci over a long period, Mr Morrison has taken the view that he would not be justified in lifting the ban until aitei the war. but as the mischievous activities of the Communist Party had been discontinued for a substantial peuod, he has now reached the conclusion that the time has arrived when the ban may properly be lifted. In communicating (his decision to those responsible tor these publications, Mr Morrison it clear that the revocation of toese orders in no way derogates from his power and duty to make the orders again under the same regulation if at any future date there should be a systematic publication of matter calculated to foment opposition to the successful prosecution of the war.
