PERSONAL

The appointment of Mr W. J. Jordan as High Commissioner for New Zealand in London has been extended for a further term of three years. He has held this position since the end of August, 1936. At the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Friendly Societies’ Hospital Association’ held in Masterton last evening a vote of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Bro. Godfrey Taylor, of Pahiatua, who had been a member of the Association.

The engagement is announced of Jean Margaret, only daughter of Mrs H. D. McLachlan and the late .J. B. Millar, of Kopuaranga, to Lance Corporal Cyril George, second son of Mr and the late Mrs J. D. Price, Terrace End, Palmerston North.

An enjoyable party was hold in the Trades Hall on Saturday night in honour of the twenty-first birthday of Miss Marion Prout, daughter of Mr and Mrs T. W. Prout, of Masteiion. There was a large attendance, of friends and relatives, including visitors from Wellington and elsewhere. Mr Prout presented his daughter with a golden key and wished her every happiness and good fortune. The guest was accorded musical honours. Many beautiful presents were received 1 y Miss Prout. A dance was held, for which the music was played by Mrs Te Tau’s Orchestra. The winners ot the Monte Carlo waltz competition were Mrs W. Edwards and Miss Buobers.
