ALFREDTON
PATRIOTIC SOCIETY “GAMES NIGHT.” (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly games night conducted by the Patriotic Society was held on Saturday night, there being a good attendance. The winners in the euchre tourna-1 ment were: Ladies, Mirs Algie; men, Mr R. Low. . A dainty fruit dish given by Mr C. Algie for competition realised £1 18s and was won by Mrs Yarrall. A parcel of groceries realised £2 and was won by Miss M. Heckler Donations were received from Mr H. Percy £2, Mr W. Walker 10s, and Anonymous £2. Goods were donated and auctioned by Mr H. Burch as follows:— Vegetables from Mr H. Percy brought 10s, parsnips and carrots from Mr W. Walker 9s 6d, and two clematis vines given by Mr B. Kebbell 13s. ‘The takings for the evening amounted to £l3 ss. The hostesses were Mesdames G. Napier and McLean and Miss B. Napier. Personal Items. Miss E. Edmonds, of the New Plymouth hospital staff, is home on a month’s leave. Mr Bert McKay, of Pahiatua, is the guest of Mr S. Edmonds.. Mrs S. Edmonds is visiting Palmerston North. Miss Cave and Miss B. Napier are visitors to Masterton for the school vacation, where they ilitend doing their V.A.D. training.
