BOXING

DAVIS BEATS PIANO. (By Telegraph—Press Association ) WELLINGTON, This Day. Moving faster, hitting harder, and beating his man to the punch, Jackie Davis (N.Z. Army) proved too rugged for Al Piano, an overseas serviceman, in a middleweight professional match scheduled for 10 rounds at Labour Hall. Petone, last night. In the sixth round, Davis shot in a beautiful left hook, which opened a big gash under Piano’s right eye. At the end of the round, the referee called in a doctor to examine the injured eye, and on the medical verdict being that Piano was unfit to continue Davis's right hand was hoisted in token of victory.
