MENINGITIS
CASES STILL OCCURRING. A FAIRLY HIGH RATE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Cases of cerebro-spinal meningitis are still occurring in New Zealand at a fairly high rate. For the week ended August 17 there were 50 cases in the Dominion, with eight deaths, including seven cases in Wellington with two deaths, and 11 cases in Auckland with three deaths. The previous week there were 50 cases in tire Dominion with two deaths, including 18 cases in Wellington with one death. Cases quoted in all instances include suspects, not definitely confirmed. The medical officer of liealth, Wellington, Dr. Hubert Smith, said yesterday that in several cases death had occurred after only a short illness.
