—. —oGIFTS TO SOLDIERS FROM CITIZENS OF DISTRICT. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a representative gathering of citizens in the Dalefleld Dairy Co’s, building last evening when the Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, presented Lance Bombadier R. Haste and Pte. E. E. Pankhurst 'with useful gifts from the burgesses of Carterton. Mrs H. Hodder, on behalf of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, handed to each soldier a parcel of woollen garments. Mr F. L. Barr, president of the Carterton branch of the R.S.A., also addressed the soldiers, who suitably acknowledged the gifts. ORDER OF DRUIDS TOTARA LODGE. The quarterly summoned meeting of Totara Lodge No. 3 U.A.O.D. was held last night, Past Arch Druid Bro. W. Fryer presiding. One new benefit member was initiated into the Order and welcomed in the usual manner. Votes of condolence were passed to Bro. Thos. R. Eaton in the death, of his sister, and with Bro. IV. G. Smith in the death of his son, Pilot Officer Trevor Smith, who was killed while faking part in an air raid over Germany. The secretary reported that he had arranged for Christmas parcels to be forwarded to Bros. lan Bond and F. Corlet, who are prisoners of war in Italy. A letter of instruction was received advising how soldiers are to apply to the Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board for assistance. All members of the lodge, or next of kin, are to be informed how to make application. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £lO5 18s 6d were passed for payment. Women’s Division Dance. The Carterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union will hold a dance in the State Theatre on Thursday night. The music will be supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton's orchestra. Personal. After having been in the service of the W.F.C.A., Ltd., Carterton, for seven and a half years,, Miss Eva Lindop, who severed her connection with the firm on Saturday last, was farewelled by the staff and made a presentation. The manager, Mr A. D. Taylor, referred to the long and faithful service given to the firm by Miss Lindop and he wished her happiness and prosperity in the future. On behalf of the employees he asked her to accept a suit case and a cushion. Miss Lindop suitably replied. Soldiers Entertained. The Clareville Social Hall was filled last evening when a number of soldiers were entertained. Dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Mrs Rogers of Dalefield. A much-appreci-ated extra was played by Miss E. Lorenzen. On behalf of the Clareville residents, Mr H. J. McKenzie presented Corporal G. Neich and Ptes. I. Fisher and J. Sewell with useful gifts. Mr W. R. Daysh, on behalf of the residents of the West Taratahi district, asked Pte. Phelps to accept a present as a token of the respect in which he is held by the residents. A parcel of woollen comforts was handed to each guest by the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union. Corp!. G. Neich, on behalf of his companions, returned thanks. Supper was provided by the ladies of the district.
