AMERICAN BOMBERS

DAY ATTACK IN NORTHERN FRANCE SCATTERED ENEMY RAIDS ON BRITAIN. THREE AXIS PLANES DESTROYED. LONDON, August 24. American Air Headquarters in Britain state that United States bombers attacked targets in Northern France this afternoon. Over England this evening an enemy raider dropped bombs on a south-east coast town. There were a few casualties and some damage. Two enemy fighters dropped bombs near a village in south-west England but no damage or casualties are reported. A small number of enemy raiders attacked the Midlands at scattered points and some reached north-east England last night. Bombs were dropped. A few people were killed, but only slight damage is reported. Three enemy bombers were destroyed.
