C.M.G.. al’ler six mouths' illness in a Loudon hospital, lie was formerly European manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, and after the outbreak of the war he became the Ministry of Food’s director of imported meat supplies. Lord Woolion, in a tribute today, said the success of the meat control arrangements was due in no small measure to Mr Forsyth’s far-sighted-ness, knowledge and influence. “Those of us who knew him best,” he added, “valued him also for his practical common sense and his loyalty, which were so important when the scheme of control was put; into operation, and also for his generous character, strong personality, and unfailing cheerfulness, which were a constant inspiration to everybody who worked with him.” In Wellington last evening the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Sullivan, spoke of the signal service Mr .Forsyth had .rendered to the New Zealand meat producers, the Meat Board and the Dominion. The High Commissioner, Mr Sullivan stated, had been asked to convey the sincere sympathy of the Government to the relatives of Mr Forsyth in their loss. Mr Forsyth was born in Dunedin in 1880. He took a prominent part in sport in Otago, and was a Rugby representative, and hold oll'ice as captain of the St. Clair Golf Club. In 1896 he entered the service of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, and he was in charge of this company’s produce and merchandise branches at Dunedin for ten years, and later of the Ashburton and Timaru branches. He was chairman of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce in 1923, when he received his appointment as representative in London of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. He was awarded the C.M.G. in the 1933 New Year Honours. Mr Forsyth was married in 1918 to Miss Margaret Hedley, of Oamaru. Dr. J. C. Forsyth, of Masterton, is a nephew of the late Mi’ Forsyth.
