SECONDARY SCHOOLS MATCH AT DANNEVIRKE. WAIRARAPA COLLEGE DEFEATED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, August 22. Replacing the annual quadrangular tournament between Dannevirke High School, Hutt Valley High School, Scots College, and Wairarapa College, the fifteens of Dannevirke and Wairarapa met at Dannevirke today. Dannevirke won by 18 points to 3 in a game which was full of interest, and the issue of which was in doubt till the last 20 minutes. Dannevirke had an advantage in weight in the scrums but the light and vigorous Wairarapa forwards worked hal’d and gave their backs a fair share of the bah. The defence of both sides was very good and play, till well on in the second spell, was even and fluctuating. Dannevirke took an early lead with a penalty by Johnson, Wairarapa evening later with a try by Baird. At the end of the game Dannevirke scored three quick tries. For Dannevirke, R. Eond. 13’,4-stone forward, played an outstanding game, and the back who caught the eye was Wairarapa’s diminutive halfback, J. Houi’igan.
