BICYCLE TIRES
DISTRICT QUOTA TOTALLY INADEQUATE. STATEMENT OF POSITION. The Masterton Bicycle Tire and Tube Rationing Committee is now handling all applications for bicycle tires and tubes. Mr R. C. Jordan, secretary _ of the committee, states that applications for bicycle tires and tubes must be made on the prescribed form, which is obtainable from any cycle dealer and must be filled in by the applicants themselves. As the demand for tires and tubes is very heavy, only the most essential cases can be entertained at present. The quota for this district is very small and, in fact, is totally inadequate. Mr Jordan states that he is in communication with the Factory Controller with a view to securing a larger quota. Mr Jordan states: “Workers relying on a bicycle as the only means of locomotion to and front their work and using it for this purpose only will be given preference, providing the request is certified as being absolutely necessary, as stated in the application form. At the present rate of distribution as per quota, only one application in ten can be entertained at the moment. Therefore, residents are requested not to use their bicycles for other than business purposes.”
