CARTERTON
RACING CLUB MEETING OF STEWARDS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr W, Howard Booth presided over a meeting of the Carterton Racing Club, held last evening. The treasurer reported a dr. balance of £434. Arising out of correspondence forwarded to the Masterton and Pahiatua racing clubs from the secretary of the Carterton club with reference to a proposal that the Wairarapa clubs should combine and hold a patriotic race meeting at Trentham on January 1 and 2, 1943, Mr N. H. James, secretary of the Masterton Club, advised that hisclub had discussed the matter and had decided to ask the Carterton, Wairarapa and Pahiatua clubs to combine with Masterton in making application to the New Zealand Racing Conference for permission to hold a one-day meeting at Trentham, the profits from such meeting to be divided among the four clubs. The Pahiatua Club replied that they favoured the Masterton proposal but thought that application should be made for a meeting on January 1 and 2. It was decided that a meeting of three delegates each from the four clubs mentioned be held at Masterton to discuss the proposal. The Carterton delegates are to be Messrs W. Howard Booth, L. H. Smart, and P. Bain. The Secretary stated that the Racing Conference had written stating that Carterton had not been granted racing dates for the 1942-43 season. Objection to this action was raised by members and it was decided that the Carterton Club enter a protest against the conference not granting Carterton racing dates.
