OBITUARY

■ MR WILLIAM HENRY PAYNE. The death occurred yesterday of Mr William Henry Payne, who was wellknown throughout the Wairarapa. He had been in indifferent health for the past six months. Born at Wellington 59 years ago. the late Mr Payne came to the Wairarapa with his parents, who had a farm property at Dryer’s Rock, Mauriceville. He worked in various parts of the Wairarapa, for a long period at Longbush. For the past six years he had resid id at Havelock North.

One son, Mr T. Payne (Auckland) and two daughters, Mesdames Fleetwood and D. Mosley (Wellington), besides eight brothers and three sisters, are left to mourn their loss. The funeral will take place in Masterton tomorrow, leaving the chapel ci Hyde’s Funeral Service, Ltd., following a service at 2 p.m., for the Masterton Cemetery. \ MR HENRY JOSEPH HUTCHINGS. The death occurred in Masterton yesterday of Mr Henry Joseph Hutchings of “The Knolls,” Featherston, a well-known district farmer. The late Mr Hutchings, who was born in England 76 years ago. came to New Zealand in 1886 and settled in the Wairarapa. For varying periods he resided at Matahiwi, Castlepoint and Pahiatua, finally taking up a property between Featherston and Martinborough. He had been actively engaged in dairy farming for the past 40 years and for many years was on the directorate of the Featherston Dairy Co., the greater part of the time as chairman. He was one of the original directors of the Co-operative Dairy Producers’ Freezing . Co., Ltd., Wellington, and was also a member of the Kaiwaiwai School Committee For many years he was chairman of the Featherston branch of the Farmers’ Union and was a delegate on the Wairarapa Provincial Executive and to several provincial conferences. He was twice married. . Mr Hutchings is survived by four sons and five daughters, who reside in various parts of the North Island. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service, Ltd., following a service at 1 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
