AMERICAN SOLDIERS
PERMITTED TO MARRY IN BRITAIN.
CHECK ON UNDUE HASTE.
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 16.
American soldiers in Britain may now marry,. Their wives will be paid the full allowance, which is £8 15s a month in the case of privates. To check hasty weddings, the soldier must give his commanding officer three months’ notice of intention to marry. Marriage does not make the woman an American citizen, but she is not required to enter America under the quota system. When she goes to America she can easily take out American citizenship.
A previous order published for the guidance of American troops overseas was to the effect that they were not permitted to marry without the consent of the commanding officer of the district in which they were, for the time being, stationed.
