ONE OF VICHY’S ACTIVE OPPONENTS MAN WHO DEFENDED BLUM AT RIOM; WILL REPORT TO DE GAULLE. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, August 18. M. Felix Gouin, vice-president of the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Chamber of Deputies and Deputy for Bouches du Rhone, has reached England from France. He was one of eighty Deputies who voted against the overthrow of the French Republic in July, 1940, and one of the three lawyers who defended M. Leon Blum at the Riorn trial. He last saw M. Blum in prison, three months ago. M. Gouin has taken an active part in the hostile attitude to the Vichy Government. He has come to England to give General de Gaulle a full account of the trend of opinion in France and to place his services at the disposal of the French National Committee.
