An Istanbul message reports that several Greek hostages were shot in Crete after an invasion scare. One hundred prominent persons were arrested and are being held as hostages. The Germans carried out parachutist exercises in a lonely valley and a rumour arose that a British invasion had begun. The Greeks rushed to welcome the British, but rushed away again when they found that the parachutists were Germans.
