DAY ATTACK ON OCCUPIED TERRITORY ACCOMPANIED BY ESCORT OF FIGHTERS. NAZI RAIDERS KILL FIVE PEOPLE IN BRITAIN. LONDON, August 17. United States Army aircraft were out over enemy occupied territory this afternoon. They were escorted all the time by fighters, including R.A.F., Dominions and Allied squadrons, besides fighter squadrons of the United States Army. All the American bombers returned safely. In daylight today German raiders dropped bombs on the south and south-west of Britain. One town was machine-gunned. Altogether five people were killed today and some damage was reported.
