FAREWELL GATHERINGS PRESENTATIONS TO MR. & MRS. N. P. WILLIAMS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the flag 500 party held by the Borough Ladies’ Soldiers’ Comforts Committee on Saturday evening occasion was taken to farewell Mr and Mrs N. P. Williams, who will leave shortly for Papakura. There was a very large attendance and after the cards the hall was cleared for dancing. Supper was served by a ladies’ committee. The following were the prize-win-ners: Ladies, Mesdames J. McAnulty, Senr., and F. Schorman; men, Messrs P. Jensen and T. Parsons. Mr V/. Olsen (Mayor), on behalf of the residents of Eketahuna, asked Mr and Mrs Williams, who had been very popular while residing here, to accept two fire-side chairs from the citizens of Eketahuna, as a small token of appreciation. He said that Mrs Williams had been a member of the Soldiers’ Comforts Committee since its formation and was secretary and treasurer at the time of her resignation. . Mrs Olsen (Mayoress) handed Mrs Williams a beautiful bouquet of pink gladiolas, violets and maiden-hair fern, the work of Miss Betty Curry. Mr Williams in reply thanked the Mayor and Mayoress for their good wishes and stated that he had been in Eketehuna for three years. Mrs Williams took a keen interest in the Ladies’ Patriotic Society and she would miss the many friends she had made. The people of Eketahuna were the most sociable and friendly he had ever met.
Miss Gallagher, schoolteacher at Kaipororo, who often conducts the flag 500 for the Ladies’ Committee, was presented with a small gift from Miss M. Anderson and a shoulder spray as she is leaving the district for Lower Hutt. Miss Agnes Schultz gave two recitations and Mrs G. Hansen supplied the dance music. The prizes were donated by Mrs Murray-Aynsley and the Misses Anderson. A presentation was made ’by the Rev. Father E. J. Sweeney at the Sacred Heart Church on behalf of the parishioners to Mr and Mrs N. P. Williams.
The members of the Borough Ladies’ Soldiers’ Comforts Committee were guests at a party held at the residence of Mrs F. C. Turnor, Waiwaka, to say goodbye to Mrs N. P. Williams, who had been secretary and treasurer. Mrs Turnor handed Mrs Williams a posy of primroses and violets. Mrs E. M. Simmers, in the absence of Miss M. Anderson (president), asked Mrs Williams to accept some Royal Albert cups, saucers and plates from the committee in appreciation of her work. Mrs Williams thanked the members for their gifts, and said that she had always enjoyed working with the committee. A leaf guessing competition was won by Mrs M. R. Herbert and a sending a telegram competition by Mrs Williams. Personal. Mr R. Simmers, Christchurch, is the guest of Dr. and Mrs Simmers, Bengston Street.
