MARTINBOROUGH
COUNTY COUNCIL BUSINESS AT TODAY’S MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council was held today, the chairman, Mr A. B. Martin, presiding. There were also present: Councillors R. Smith, J, C. Bidwill, Q. Donald, J. A. McLeod, P. Gillies, R. W. Matthews and A. J. Thomson. Notification was received to the effect that the leave of soldier workmen engaged in earthquake restoration had been extended for two months.
Mrs Reed, Longbush, wrote asking the council to repair a bridge to her property, which had been damaged by earthquake. It was agreed to repair the bridge as soon as finances were available.
The National Council of Production asked the council to report on farm labour requirements and to set up a committee in connection therewith. The chairman reported that this had already been done.
The resignation of Councillor D. Cameron, after 25 years’ service, was accepted with regret. Members paid a tribute to the splendid work done by Councillor Cameron during his term of office.
Mr W. S. Cameron was elected to fill the vacancy.
The ranger reported having impounded three cows and one horse. Accounts totalling £4918 3s lOd were passed.
