WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS

(“Times-Age” Special.)

The monthly meeting of the Kopuaranga Women’s Institute was held in the local Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs W. J. Cottle presiding over a good attendance of members. An apology for absence was received from Mrs S. J. Clarke.

The treasurer’s report showed a satisfactory credit balance.

Mesdames W. J. Cottle and O. O’Connor were elected delegates to the half-yearly council meeting to be held in Carterton in October. Members decided to contribute money this year instead of gifts to the Makogai Leper Fund. It was decided to hold a bring-and-buy stall at the next meeting. The roll call, “A Monday Pudding,’’ was answered by all present. Mrs Cottle, on behalf of the members, presented a silver 1 bean each to baby Joan Taplin and baby Michael Hansen. Mrs Taplin and Mrs Hansen suitably acknowledged the gifts. Afternoon tea was provided by the hostesses, Mesdames Jarrett and Taplin.

A box lecture, “Food Valuable in Vegetables,” was read by Mrs Hewitt, and members discussed points of interest.

The competitions resulted as follows: —Best bloom: Mrs Wright and Mrs Reside, equal, 1; Mrs Hewitt, 2: Mrs Jarrett, 3. Handkerchief made from a flour bag: Mrs Wright and Mrs Jarrett, equal, 1; Mrs Brophy, 2; Mrs Taplin, 3.
