ALTERNATIVES FOR ALLIES. DECLARATION BY AMERICAN MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) CLEVELAND (Ohio), August 12. The Under-Secretary of War, Mr Paterson, in a speech at ceremonies in connection with the Army and Navy production award to the White Motor Company, said: “I wish I could tell you that the war is going well, but it is not. We are still on the defensive. This duty is a bright spot in a dark war. We need more bright spots. There is only one alternative waiting at the end of the load—victory or death.”
