GREYTOWN
SCHOOL AFFAIRS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee was held on Tuesday evening. There were present: Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), F. Donnes, E. Galyer, W. Grigg, R. O’Neale, H. C. Trotman, Mrs Knell and the headmaster, Mr S. C. Shedden. An apology for absence was received from Mr W. G. K. Wiggins.
Mr J. D. Morison tendered his resignation owing to his being in the military forces. The committee decided to hold over Mr Morison’s resignation for three months, and he was granted leave for this period. Mr J. Kiernan wrote stating that Mr A. Stuart, controller of the Transport Section of the E.P.S., would confer with the school transport officials. Messrs F. Dennes and S’. C. Shedden stated that they had interviewed Mr Stuart and discussed the transport of children to their homes in an emergency. It was decided to write to Mr Stuart asking him to arrange for a trial before the school holidays. It was decided that a letter of thanks be sent to Mr W. H. Day for his gift of a set of encyclopaedias. A letter was received from the secretary of the Featherston-Greytown Methodist Circuit asking the committee to reconsider its decision not. to allow their minister, the Rev. L. A. D. Hayman, to give Bible instruction at the school. After discussion it was decided to reply that the committee saw no reason for altering its previous decision. The headmaster reported as fol-lows:—-Primary roll, 306; secondary, 35. Influenza and colds were very prevalent and were having a bad effect on the attendance. GOLF LADIES’ COMPETITION. A Stableford bogey match will be played for the Balfour Badges by the lady members of the Greytown Golf Club on Saturday. The draw is as follows: —Mrs Thompson v. Mrs Jury; Mrs Maddison v. Mrs Mead; Miss Joan Feast v. Miss R. Collier; Miss B. Gregor v. Miss M. Skeet; Miss Wood v. Miss M. Maddison; Miss J. Bouzaid v. Miss Oxford; Miss Higginson v. Miss Askew; Miss Quin v. another. TOWN HALL TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. Marlene Dietrich, John Wayne, Mischa Auer, and Albert Dekker have the chief roles in the thrilling drama, “Seven Sinners,” which will be shown tonight. The associate feature, “Playmates,” provides Kay Kyser and Patsy Kelly with plenty of scope for their comedy talents.
