RETURN FROM EXTENDED TOUR.

DOZEN COUNTRIES VISITED.

The Duke of Gloucester has returned home after a war time tour which has no precedent. He has been travelling four months and has covered 42,400 miles, visiting a dozen countries, in three continents. He flew 34,700 miles. One-seventh of the journey was made by car and only one-twenty-flfth by train.

The Duke has been at Gibraltar, in Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Cyprus, Syria, Iraq, Iran, India, Ceylon, Aden, Eritrea, Somaliland, Kenya, the Sudan anc} British West Africa. The tour was suggested by General Auchinleck. The following message was sent to the Duke by the Army Council: “On the occasion of your Royal Highness’s return to this country, the members of the Army Council wish to express their gratitude for your prolonged and successful mission. They hope your Royal Highness will accept their very sincere thanks for so ably performing an arduous duty, which will have a lasting effect on the troops in the countries you visited.” ’
